Born in Ghent (Belgium), Ben De Wulf obtained a master’s degree in violin at the LUCA School of Arts, Leuven, and a master’s degree in baroque violin at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles. Since then, he has been freelancing with both classical and period performance orchestras and ensembles in Europe.
In 2012 he moved to England to study at the violin making school in Newark-on-Trent and honed his skills through work experiences in London, Paris and Brussels with David Rattray, Matthew Wing, Tim Toft, Jan Bartos and Catherine Janssens.
After graduating in 2015, Ben became the first full-time assistant of Philip in London. He assisted in making copies of fine classical Cremonese instruments as well as replacement parts and cosmetic work on old Italian instruments. He also assisted in published research on the forms of Stradivari.
In 2018, Ben left London to become assistant of Andreas Post in Amsterdam, where he specialized in the maintenance, sound adjustment and restoration of precious instruments. Guided by Andreas, Ben continued to build a profound knowledge in the expertise of instruments and bows.
After seven years of training in major workshops, he went back to Belgium in 2022 to start his own business undertaking large scale restorations, maintenance, repair and sound adjustment of fine instruments.
